Bright Horizons, an international company providing preschool and child care, has opened its newest center at 682 Commerce Drive.
The center, which offers infant, toddler, preschool and kindergarten prep programs, is the eighth Bright Horizons Center in Fairfield County. Other centers are located in Trumbull, Norwalk, Wilton and Shelton, with three centers in Stamford.
Bright Horizons' Fairfield center has the capacity for 124 children and serves children ages 6 weeks to 6 years. The teacher to child ratio ranges from one staff member for every four children for infants and toddlers, to one to 10 for older children. The center is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. year round.
"We offer a unique curriculum that includes a world of discovery guided by skilled teachers who recognize each child's individual strengths," said Erica Hughes, center director. "Whether it's our Movement Matters Zone, complete with a rock-climbing wall, or the wide array of art supplies in the art studio for children to create their own masterpieces, we're truly excited to introduce our center to families."
Hughes has more than 10 years' experience in early education. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in psychology, a second bachelor's degree in education, and a master's degree in education.
Bright Horizons Fairfield opened on Dec. 2 and will host its grand opening on Saturday, Jan. 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will include a musical performance, crafts and other children's activities. Snow date for the grand opening is Jan. 25.
