Cemetery to dedicate veteran's memorial

This new veterans' memorial at the entrane to Oak Lawn Cemetery on Bronson Road will be dedicated during a ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17. Saturday is Armed Forces Day, established in 1949 to honor those who have seerved in the armed forces. Fairfield CT. May 2014.

The Oak Lawn Cemetery Association will dedicate a new veterans memorial at the entrance to the cemetery on Saturday, May 17.

The ceremony is planned at 10 a.m. at the 1530 Bronson Road cemetery.

The memorial includes a base of Vermont granite with an inscription and carved seal of the United States, a 30-foot flag pole, and a pair of granite benches, cemetery officials said.

The ceremony coincides with Armed Forces Day, established in 1949 to be observed on the third Saturday in May as a day to pay tribute to those who have served in the armed forces.

The ceremony is open to the public and refreshments will be served, cemetery officials said.
