Town Clerk Betsy Browne swears Thomas Conley in as the town's new Building Official while First Selectman Mike Tetreau looks on.

A building inspector for the town since 1997, Thomas Conley has been appointed Fairfield's new chief building official, taking over for Jim Gilleran, who retired from the post last week.

Conley, 59, a Fairfield resident, is a state-licensed electrical inspector and state-licensed building official. He is also a member of the IBEW, Local 488, a member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors and holds an E-1 license as an unlimited electrical contractor.

Conley is also a former member of the Sullivan-McKinney Elder Housing's executive board and served on the Representative Town Meeting.

"The town of Fairfield's Building Department is continuing the tradition of safeguarding the public health, safety and general welfare through education and code enforcement," Conley said in a press release announcing his appointment.

First Selectman Michael Tetreau said in the statement, "Tom brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this key role which will help the Building Department continue to provide quality service to our community. I also want to thank Jim Gilleran for all of his dedicated years of service to our town and wish him all the best in his retirement."

A Roger Ludlowe High School graduate, Conley is married and the father of three children.
