Frank J. O'Neil of Bridgeport, wanted on a strangulation charge by Bridgeport police, was charged Saturday with having a weapon (a knife) in a motor vehicle by Fairfield police.

A 34-year-old driver, wanted on a strangulation charge in Bridgeport, was charged Saturday afternoon with having weapons in a motor vehicle after police stopped the car he was driving on Kings Highway Cutoff because of motor vehicle violations.

Frank J. O'Neil, of Logan Street, Bridgeport, was scheduled to appear March 24 on the weapon charge in Bridgeport Superior Court, and was then turned over to Bridgeport authorities who held a warrant charging him with strangulation, according to Fairfield police.

Police said O'Neil was stopped about 12:23 p.m. Saturday because his car had dark tinted windows and no information came back from a check on its registration plate. They said O'Neil consented to a search of the car and that officers found a 5¼-inch, double-sided knife behind the front passenger seat.

O'Neil told officers he was unaware that it was illegal to operate a vehicle registered in another state while he was living in Connecticut, according to the report. O'Neil was given infractions for failure to change his address at the Department of Motor Vehicles and for having dark, tinted windows on the car.
