The manager and patrons at the Horseshoe Cafe, 355 Pequot Ave., came to the aid of a woman whose purse was stolen at the Southport bar early Tuesday, police said..
According to the report, the woman couldn't find her purse about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday and approached the manager. He said the man who had been sitting near her was now in the men's room. The manager went into the men's room and said he could see through a crack in the stall door that the man, later identified as Rodderick Hannon, 43, going through the purse, according police. He then called police.
Hannon emerged from the men's room, and said something to a friend who had accompanied him. The friend replied, "You what?" according to the report, and Hannon tossed the purse on a seat and left.
The bar manager and several customers followed Hannon outside, where he threw the credit cards from the wallet on the ground when confronted, according to the report. Police arrived and took Hannon into custody.
Hannon, who lives on Park Avenue in Bridgeport, was charged with sixth-degree larceny and two counts of credit card theft. He was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear July 14 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
Hannon's friend, Joel Young, 35, of Olive Street, Bridgeport, was also taken into custody when police said they discovered there were two outstanding warrants from Bridgeport police for his arrest on charges of second-degree failure to appear. He was released on bonds totaling $1,000 and is scheduled to appear July 14 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
