Arlene Gasper, 33, of Fairfield, was arrested on a warrant for violation of probation.

A 33-year-old Brookfield Avenue woman was arrested on a warrant early Wednesday after she was spotted by police walking near her home.

An officer saw Arlene Gasper and another person walking down her snow-covered street around 1 a.m., according to the police report.

When police checked Gasper's identity, they discovered an active warrant for her arrest for violating probation on an Ansonia case. When Gasper was handcuffed, she became uncooperative, screaming at officers and refusing to get into the patrol car, police said. She was also yelling for her mother, who came to the scene and tried to intervene despite officers' instructions to back away.

Gasper continued to struggle and officers believed she showed signs of having used a hallucinogenic substance because of her slurred speech and strenuous resistance.

At police headquarters, Gasper continued to be uncooperative, refusing to follow instructions, according to the report. During a search, police said they found a cigar wrapper with a dark, black substance inside that gave off a strong, chemical smell. It was sent to the State Police lab for testing for PCP.

In addition to the Ansonia warrant, Gasper was also charged by Fairfield police with interfering with an officer.

On the warrant, bond was set at $5,000 and she is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on Jan. 6. The Fairfield charge also carried a $5,000 bond and she was assigned a Dec. 30 date in Bridgeport Superior Court. Gasper posted both bonds, according to police.
