A Bridgeport man told police he struck the front porch of a house on Stratfield Road early Thursday morning, telling police that he swerved to avoid a car that was driving erratically.
Arnold Schwartz, 67, of Madison Avenue, Bridgeport, was not injured in the accident, but was issued an infraction for failure to drive right.
He told police that a black Ford sedan in front of him around 1:19 a.m. was driving erratically and, at one point, pulled over to the road's shoulder. It was then, Schwartz said, that he tried to pass the other car, which then pulled back out into the road, he told police. When Schwartz swerved to avoid the other driver, he went off the road and onto a lawn, hitting some shrubs and causing "heavy damage" to the front porch of a home.
According to the police report, there were no signs that Schwartz attempted to brake.
