Her appointment is effective July 1.
Furnari, who has been an instructional improvement teacher / language arts specialist at Dwight Elementary School, is a graduate of Western Connecticut State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education. She holds a Master of Science degree in reading from Southern Connecticut State University and a Sixth Year Certificate of Advanced Study in Administration from Sacred Heart University.
Furnari's background as an educator includes experience as a pre-kindergarten to grade three summer school principal, instructional improvement teacher, gifted and talented teacher, language arts specialist and elementary teacher for grades two and three.
"Viewed as highly collaborative, Ashley is a gifted instructional leader who will bring energy and enthusiasm to her new role as assistant principal at West School," Gary Kass, the New Canaan school district's director of human resources, said in a press statement.
