The Police Department is accepting applications for patrol officer, with the anticipation of hiring several candidates.
The salary range for an officer starts at $56,935 and can increase to about $74,448 after 20 years of service. The benefits package includes medical, dental and life insurance, a pension plan, a military buyback plan, college incentive pay and tuition reimbursement, 12 paid holidays and seven paid vacation days after six months.
Individuals must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years old, a high school graduate or have passed a GED test, possess a valid driver's license and pass all of the testing phases to be considered for hiring. Testing includes a written exam, a physical fitness test, oral board exam, background investigation, polygraph, and psychological and medical exams.
Those who have been convicted of any felony or class A or B misdemeanor, perjury, false statement or any domestic violence related misdemeanor crime, are ineligible.
All applicant must register for and pass the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association written test at 70 percent or higher before submitting their application. July 23 is the deadline for registering for the written test; register at http://www.policeapp.com.
