Under bright blue skies Sunday, veterans, Boy Scouts, town officials and emergency-services employees, and parishioners gathered at Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church for the annual Memorial Day service.
Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, the service was Assumption's 20th annual tribute to the military fallen in service to the nation.
Among the attendees were Fairfield First Selectman Michael Tetreau, Police Chief Gary MacNamara and Town Clerk Betsy Browne, joined by veterans from all branches of the military.
Piper Art Beagan led a short processional up the front steps of the church, followed by Mass celebrated by Msgr. Ernest T. Esposito, accompanied by remarks from Tetreau and Thomas Vita, the state deputy of the Knights of Columbus.
Taps and prayers for the war dead closed the service.
