Good times rolled Saturday night as a bit of Big Easy fun came to Fairfield courtesy of a Mardi Gras fundraiser staged by Our Lady of Assumption School.
The fete was decked out in colorful Fat Tuesday masks, beads, hats and centerpieces. The gathering is one of four major fundraisers Assumption organizes during the year, according to event committee member Karen Guastelle.
More than 100 people turned out to bid on more than 70 silent auction items and live auction goods that ranged from fur coats to sports collectibles, as well as enjoy appetizers and dance to jazz performed by the Bryan Garbe quartet.
Assumption Principal Gerrie Desio, in a go-for-broke bid to raise money for her school, was imprisoned in a mock "jail" until $1,000 in donations was raised to bail her out.
