The philanthropic organization Near & Far Aid will hold its annual Designer House Tour, "Celebrating the Art of Living," on Friday, May 2. Hours for the self-guided tour, which includes five homes in Fairfield, Southport and Westport, are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The house tour will allow patrons to meander the halls of decorated homes -- from waterfront mansions to back country estates. The price of the house tour is $60; boxed lunches to take along on the tour are $15.
A pre-tour breakfast will take place on tour day from 9:15 to 10:45 a.m. at the Patterson Club, 1118 Cross Highway, featuring designer Kathryn Ireland. Ireland's list of clientele includes Steve Martin, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and David Mamet. Tickets for the pre-tour breakfast are $65.
A "Toast the Tour" cocktail reception will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Fairfield County Hunt Club, 174 Long Lots Road, in Westport, May 2, following the tour. The celebration will take place under a tent on the polo field and will feature a luxury car show, hors d'oeuvres and martini and champagne stations. Tickets for the "Toast the Tour" celebration are $100.
"The Designer House Tour provides patrons a glimpse of fine living in Fairfield County, showcasing exquisite homes and decor while letting Near & Far Aid continue its important work of providing support programs helping families at risk, homelessness and adults in crisis and other causes," said Near & Far Aid President Bitsy Higgins of Westport. Chairwoman of the 2014 Designer House Tour is Kelly Scinto of Fairfield.
The events benefit Near & Far Aid's projects to break the cycle of poverty. Since 2000, Near & Far Aid has granted over $13 million to Fairfield County agencies working with the disadvantaged.
