Pre-school aide from Southport faces child porn charges

A former preschool aide who lives in Fairfield had 120 video files of child pornography on his laptop computer, according to State Police.

Eric Von Kohorn, 55, of Harbor Road in the Southport section of town, was arraigned Wednesday in state Superior Court in Bridgeport on charges of first-degree possession of child pornography and promoting a minor in an obscene performance.

Von Kohorn looked at the floor as he stood before Judge Robin Pavia. After reviewing the arrest warrant affidavit, the judge continued the case for two weeks.

Von Kohorn, who is free on $50,000 bond, left the Golden Hill Street courthouse with his lawyer, Kerry Lawrence.

Von Kohorn worked as an aide at the Miller Driscoll School in Wilton from 2007 to June of this year.

State Police said Dr. Fred Rapczynski, the director of the preschool program at the school, told them Von Kohorn had been investigated by school officials and the state Department of Children and Families last year after a female preschool student complained to her mother that Von Kohorn had forcefully wiped her private parts after she went to the bathroom. However, police said Rapczynski told them the complaint was found to be unsubstantiated, Von Kohorn's colleagues had come to his defense and Von Kohorn remained in his job.

State Police said last April they were searching a file-sharing network on the Internet when they came across Von Kohorn's computer IP address. State police said they downloaded two video files from the IP address both which depicted sexual activity between young girls and adult males.

At the end of June, State Police said they seized Von Kohorn's laptop computer from his bedroom. They said they found 120 video files on the hard drive depicting male and female children, from the ages of 2 to 14, engaged in sexually explicit conduct such as bondage, bestiality and sexual activity with other children, as well as adult men and women.

They said the files were associated with the user account, "Big Daddy."

When they later questioned him, State Police said Von Kohorn asked detectives what could happen to him if he downloaded child pornography.

"Von Kohorn did state that he has never had any sexual contact with a child," police said.
