Police said they found a stun gun in Nuesha T. Shipman's possession, after she was stopped for shoplifting.

A Bridgeport woman was in possession of a stun gun-type device Wednesday when she was taken into custody and charged with shoplifting an $11 cell phone screen protector and case from Walgreen's, 740 Villa Ave., police said.

Nuesha T. Shipman, 19, had a pink "Pitbull" electronic defense weapon -- a device that can emit a spark -- and is considered illegal.

Shipman, of Williams Street, was charged with possession of an electronic defense weapon and sixth-degree larceny. She was held on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear May 23 in Bridgeport Superior Court.

Police were called by the manager at Walgreen's around 12:48 p.m. Wednesday, who said Shipman came up to the photo counter to pay for pictures and then took the cell phone protector. The manager got a description of the car in which Shipman was a passenger, and the car was stopped by police on Commerce Drive.
