Snow ... and more snow ... and ?
That's kind of winter week this promises to be, according to the National Weather Service.
Snow started falling early Monday, just in time to make the first commute of the work week a mess, and cancel classes in local schools.
Before the snow stops falling sometime this evening, the weather service estimates the total accumulation will be about 5 to 7 inches. The daytime high temperature is expected to rise to the mid-30s, with an overnight low in the mid-teens as the storm clears out.
While there promises to be a bit of a winter respite most of Tuesday -- with temperatures in the mid-30s under sunny skies -- by nighttime snow is expected to start falling again and continue into Wednesday.
Right now, that storm could dump another 5 inches on the region, with the extra hazard of sleet and freezing rain Wednesday morning adding to the misery.
The rest of the week looks relatively calm ... until Friday night and the weekend, when there are varying odds for snowfall each of the three days, the NWS says.
