Southport man charged in harassment complaint

FAIRFIELD — A Southport Woods Drive man was arrested on a warrant Monday for allegedly harassing a neighbor.

James Severine, 53, was charged with breach of peace and reckless driving after police allege he swerved the car he was driving at the victim and his dog, nearly hitting the dog. The incident happened the afternoon of May 28, while the victim was walking his dog in a common area of the condominium complex.

He said Severine yelled and cursed at him for allowing the dog to urinate in the grass, and then Severine got into his car and drove toward him and the dog.

A witness said she heard Severine’s wife yelling profanities at the victim, and then saw the car, driven by Severine with his wife in the passenger seat “swerve in an aggressive manner,” almost hitting the dog.

Severine’s wife later complained that the victim had been spitting near her while he was walking the dog, but the witness could not confirm this.

According to police, Severine has been in 18 different incidents involving the police. In some instances, he was complainant, and many cases, police said, were harassment complains either by or against Severino.

Severine was released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport Aug. 10.
