The halls have been decked with boughs of holly, the trees are have been trimmed and the Burr Homestead has undergone its annual transformation into a holiday wonderland.
The Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival opens to the public Friday morning at the Old Post Road mansion and continues through Sunday afternoon.
Local designers and dozens of volunteers earlier this week began decorating rooms, including one where kids can visit Santa.
The fest features holiday entertainment and hundreds of wreaths, decorations and ornaments -- all of them for sale.
Regular hours are Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children and seniors. Several special events, require separate tickets. The first was an opening gala Thursday night.
Proceeds from the festival each year are donated to a charity designated by festival officials. This year's beneficiary is the Kennedy Center, the regional agency that provides a variety of services to individuals with disabilities.
Since its founding three decades ago, the festival has donated more than $3 million to charities, according to its website.
Rooms throughout the Burr Homestead have been decorated by professional designers, and visitors can browse the festive rooms while sipping hot cider and shopping for decorations. Santa will be at the mansion for personal visits and photos.
Special events requiring separate tickets include:
- Children's-family dinner, Friday, 5 to 7 p.m., featuring children's activities and entertainment, a visit by Santa and pasta dinner. Adults, $20; children, $10; children under 3, free.
- Christmas island party for adults only, Saturday, 7 to 10 p.m., featuring Jimmy Buffet-inspired, live music, raw bar, light dinner and margarita bar. $75 per person.
- Family pancake breakfast, Sunday, 9 to 11 a.m., featuring a penguin theme and penguin stories. Adults, $15; children, $10; children under 3 free.
