Three boosters of Fairfield business --- from left, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Beverly Balaz, First Selectman Mike Tetreau and Community and Economic Development Director Mark Barnhat --- gathered at the downtown Fairfield University Book Store to promote an April even downtownt, "Shop and Stroll Into Spring."

The town and Fairfield Chamber of Commerce are planning a one-night downtown shopping and dining promotion on Thursday, April 3.

"Shop & Stroll Into Spring" will take place from 5 to 9 p.m., when participating retail stores will offer complimentary hors d'oeuvres and seasonal refreshments, and participating restaurants will offer dinner and drink specials, the first selectman's office said.

"This is a great opportunity to celebrate the arrival of spring, support our local businesses and enjoy a fun night out with family and friends," First Selectman Mike Tetreau said in a news release.

Bright Horizons at Fairfield, a day care center on Commerce Drive, will offer child care services from 6 to 9 p.m. for what the town said would be a discounted fee. The program is for children up to age 10 and includes a pizza dinner, plus fitness and arts-and-crafts activities.

The program is limited to 20 children on a first-come, first-served basis, according to the release. Reservations and information are available by calling Bright Horizons at 203-384-4951.

The town said businesses that would like to participate in the promotion should call Mark Barnhart, the town's community and economic development director, at 203-256-3120, or Beverly Balaz, the chamber executive director, at 203-255-1011.
