On the Market: A typical facade hides secrets

NEW CANAAN — The 4,202-square-foot house at the end of a long driveway at 222 Marshall Ridge Road cannot be seen from the road because its positioning on a 1.69-acre largely level and sloped property affords it an immense amount of privacy.

Were this white clapboard house with black shutters visible to pedestrians and motorists, it would likely fool them all. From its outward appearance the house is a classic colonial as one would expect to find in New Canaan when it was first built in 1986. But inside it’s a different story. The front formal rooms still live like a traditional colonial while the back of the house is comfortably casual and suitable for daily living and lots of entertaining. A gate in the back fence on the ridge shortens the walk to the train.
