Fairfield Ludlowe head coach Mary Ellen Corbiere, in her eighth year, is replacing only one player who graduated from last year's team that compiled an overall record of 4-10-2. The Falcons went 2-5-2 in FCIAC matches and finished seventh of nine teams in the conference standings. They did not qualify for the FCIAC or state championship tournaments.
Senior Kate O'Neill, Ludlowe's top finisher last year at the conference championships, has been named team captain. Junior Sarah Gander is the other captain. O'Neill will play in the No. 1 position, with Gander at No. 2. Rounding out Ludlowe's lineup are junior Mary Essex at No. 3, senior Meghan Maciejewski (No. 4), senior Meghan Hand (5), senior Blair Wetmur-Bracey (6), junior Grace Bentley (7) and junior Ashlyn Finnegan (8).
The top five players' rounds count toward team scoring. The Falcons' roster features 14 players.
Corbiere is stressing individual scores in the 50s. If that's accomplished, Ludlowe should be competitive in the conference, she said. Corbiere instructs her players to "forget your opponents; always play against par," she said.
The season starts Wednesday against Darien in a home match at the H. Smith Richardson golf course starting at 3:30 p.m. The Falcons meet Warde on May 21.
No report on the Mustangs is featured because a request to submit information on the team by the coach was not received in time.
