Scheetz, Levine, Blatt, Warten, Crowe, Fuller, Lasky win CIAC Scholar-Athlete Awards

The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) had its banquet Sunday night at the Aquaturf in Southington honoring its yearly Scholar-Athlete award winners from each high school. Seven athletes from the four Fairfield high schools were among the 348 student athletes who received recognition.

From Fairfield Warde, boys lacrosse player Kyle Scheetz and Nicole Levine, of the dance team, won awards. From Fairfield Ludlowe, Pauline Blatt, who plays volleyball and basketball, and Kevin Warten (indoor and outdoor track & field) were award winners. Nicholas Crowe, who plays football and wrestles, was Fairfield Prep's winner. Jasmine Fuller (girls soccer and outdoor track) and Matthew Lasky (baseball) won awards from Notre Dame-Fairfield.

Each year, the CIAC's Scholar-Athlete Program recognizes two high school seniors -- one young man and one young lady -- from each member high school. The award is given to those, the CIAC says on its Scholar-Athlete webpage, "whose academic and athletic careers have been exemplary, whose personal standards and achievements are a model to others, and who possess high levels of integrity, self-discipline and courage."

Bob Picozzi, of ESPN, was the keynote speaker and John Holt, of WFSB-TV (Channel 3) was emcee.
