in `Hoop Shoot'

Local champion Christian Homa, in the 12-13 age group of the Elks' National "Hoop Shoot" Free Throw Contest, earned a third in the event's state finals on Feb. 8.

The shootoff was held last Saturday at New Britain High School, where local champions from around the state convened to select state winners who will move on to the New England Championship in March.

Homa was defeated by Zach Dunnack, of Willimantic, who delighted the crowd with a sparkling perfect 25-of-25 free-throw performance. Bristols' Corey Picard took second, one shot better than Homa.
