Wakeman lacrosse

registration open

Registration has begun for the spring lacrosse season at Wakeman Boys and Girls Club Southport Clubhouse. The Wakeman in-house lacrosse program is a fit for all players, beginners through advanced.

Giants prepare

for 48th season

Fairfield Giants Youth Football League registration will open March 15th for its fall 2014 tackle football (ages 7-15), NFL flag football (ages 5-10) and cheerleading (ages 7-15) programs. Fairfield Junior Football is a member of Southern Connecticut Pop Warner and is an age/weight-matrix based program. This matrix allows for players to play with participants their own size.

7 PAL wrestlers

reach New Englands

On March 2, the Fairfield PAL wrestling team placed nine athletes in the Youth State Wrestling Championships at Hillhouse High School in New Haven.

At the Novice level (athletes born in 2002-03), Will Ebert placed second at the 80-pound weight class, Cole Shaughnessy placed fourth at 75 pounds, as did Tristen Breheny at 120 pounds, Griffin Gallati placed fifth at 112, and John Summers finished sixth at 95 pounds.

At the Middle School level (1999-2001), Alex Steele won at 105 in overtime, Clay Zachery was runner-up at 144, Izaake Zuckerman placed third at 112, while Kris Gjinaj was sixth at 120.

Steele, Zachery, Ebert, Zuckerman, Shaughnessy, Breheny, and Gallati qualified for the New England Youth Wrestling Championships in North Andover, Mass., on March 16.
