Keys for the Huskies
INSIDE PRESENCE: The Huskies have the size advantage on paper with 7-foot Amida Brimah, 6-10 Phil Nolan and 6-9 DeAndre Daniels, but they need to use it on the glass and in paint point production. Two of Villanova's top rebounders are 6-6 James Bell and 6-7 JayVaughn Pinkston, who along with 6-10 Daniel Ochefu, are each averaging 6.1 rebounds. UConn's top rebounder is only 6-1, Shabazz Napier (6.0), but the big men need to take that lead.
TO 3 AND NOT TO 3: Both teams love to fire away from the perimeter to make their offense go. Villanova has hit 293 3-pointers (35.6 percent) in 33 games, while the Huskies have made 253 (39 percent). UConn has been lazy at times defending the perimeter, but the Wildcats will make them pay if they are this game.
FORCE CONTACT: One of UConn's major strengths is foul shooting -- the Huskies ranked seventh in the country -- but it failed to take advantage of that against Saint Joe's until overtime. Even if the perimeter game is working, the Huskies still need to attack the paint and find ways to get to the line.
