This weekend’s entertainment kicks off with the comedy of Michael Rapaport, who makes fun of himself and everyone else. The comedian, actor and basketball superfan will perform five shows at The Stress Factory in Bridgeport, Thursday through Saturday.
Thursday is also when you can see a new take on “Jane Eyre” at Hartford Stage. A gothic mystery/romance, the tale shared here begins with Jane as a young woman making her way in the world; it runs through March 14. Also onstage, but only for one night, is “The Vagina Monologues.” You can catch this provocative show Saturday at Torrington’s Warner Theatre.
Of course Valentine’s Day arrives Friday, and with it are plenty of options for fun. Lifehouse features a mix of high-energy rock and intimate acoustic moments, with beautiful ballads such as “You and Me,” at The Ridgefield Playhouse that night. The concert is part of a fundraiser, and includes drinks, desserts and a live auction.
If family entertainment is what you’re after, and you enjoy basketball with a mix of hilarious antics both on and off the court, check out the Harlem Globetrotters. The Globetrotters bring their new show, “Pushing the Limits” to Bridgeport’s Webster Bank Arena Friday and will be at Hartford’s XL Center Saturday. They also return to Webster Bank Arena Feb. 21.
The Connecticut Fishing & Garden Show is a new event at Mohegan Sun, Friday through Sunday. It takes place in the Earth Expo & Convention Center and features a mix of seminars, vendor booths and exhibits, along with a 5,000-gallon fish tank. This show is where you can learn about everything from rock climbing and kayaking to hiking and biking. There’s also several guest speakers, such as Roland Martin of NBC Sports’ “Fishing with Roland Martin.”
