State police: Northeast CT liquor store robbed at knifepoint— again

CHAPLIN — Connecticut State Police are searching for a suspect after a liquor store on Wilimantic Road reported an armed robbery Tuesday.

It’s the second time in recent days the store has been held up — both times at knifepoint

State police from Troop D were called to the Chaplin Package Store on 169 Willimantic Road Tuesday evening on a report of a robbery, Trooper First Class Pedro Muñiz said.

“It was reported that a male wearing a black sweatshirt and a black bandana face covering entered the store and displayed a knife,” Muñiz said.

The suspect fled on foot and state police are still investigating, he said.

Last week, state police asked for the public’s help identifying a suspect in an almost identical crime.

Around 8 p.m. Thursday, police were called to the store after an employee said a white male in a green hoodie and blue surgical mask brandished a knife and demanded money from the employee.

Police said the suspect in that incident left with an unidentified amount of cash.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Kimball 860-779-4957 or the Troop D Barracks 860-779-4900.
