A 37-year-old Bridgeport man was charged with driving under the influence after he was found sleeping behind the wheel of his pickup truck in the middle of an intersection Sunday night.
Jorge Cabrera was also charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license.
Police received a call from a motorist around 7:30 p.m. Sunday to report a vehicle was stopped in the intersection of Jennings and Deer Park roads, and its driver was slumped over the wheel. The pickup truck's engine was running and the headlights were on, according to the report.
Officers knocked on the truck window, but Cabrera did not wake up, so they opened the door and shook him. He said he had just been sleeping and thought he was in Bridgeport, police said. When asked for his license, registration and insurance card, police said Cabrera handed an officer the entire contents of the glove compartment, police said. He was handed back the items and again asked for his license, registration and insurance. This time, police said, Cabrera began handing them random envelopes and the driver's manual for the truck.
He failed field sobriety tests, and told police he had no idea how he got to Fairfield, according to the report.
Cabrera was released on a $50 bond and is scheduled to appear Feb. 3 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
