DAR honors high school seniors as 'Good Citizens'

Four local high school seniors recently were presented with the annual "Good Citizen Award" by the Eunice Dennie Burr Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Recipients of the award were chosen by their school counselors for "outstanding service to their school and community as well as for their academic standing," according to a statement from the DAR.

Recipients of the Good Citizen Award this year are: Jairo Martinez of Fairfield College Preparatory School, Brigitte Dale of Fairfield Ludlowe High School, Charles Fallon of Notre Dame High School and Christoph James Dow of Joel Barlow High School in Redding.

Independent judges selected Jairo Martinez's essay as the Burr chapter's winner.

Certificates and pins were presented by Linda and Lena Paslov, co-chairwomen of the program.

During the awards program, Regent Cathy Tymniak spoke about the history of the Academy, which was built on Town Hall Green in 1804. Eunice Dennie Burr, a benefactor of the school, insisted that girls be included as students, according to the DAR.

Selectman Cristin McCarthy Vahey presented the recipients with town certificates.
