Fair farewell: After 32 years, final crafts event hosted by Fairfield Woman's Club

The crafts fair hosted by the Fairfield Woman's Club on Town Hall Green -- a local rite spring for 32 years -- may have run its course.

The year's event Saturday attracted 40 vendors, selling a range of wares like birdhouses, jewelry, gifts for mom, woodcrafts, etched glass, apparel and photography.

Home-baked goods were also for sale and food trucks offered kettle corn, Italian ices and hot dogs.

Lois Holly, a co-president of the club, said of the decision to call off the fair after this year, "There's only a small number of club members now and it's too much work to coordinate everything ... Our members are ages 65 to 86."

Each year, funds raised by the crafts fair have helped the club to fund a $2,500 scholarship given to a graduating senior from one of the town's two high schools.
