From K to 12, Townwide Student Art Show draws range of talents

The Fairfield public schools' annual Townwide Student Art Show was hosted this year by the Pequot Library, which showcased more than 800 two-dimensional and many 3-D pieces of work by young artists.

The exhibit ran three days, and included an artist reception Wednesday, with refreshments, lawn games and activities. Music was performed by Steve Clarke and Mark Edinberg.

"Bringing literature, art, music, science and the humanities to our community has been part of Pequot Library's mission for 125 years," said Karen Linder, the library's director of development, in a press release. She said the library was delighted to have been chosen by the school district to host the annual art show.

Students' subject matter ranged from figurative animals to abstract self-portraits in media, including pen-and-ink designs, paper structures, paintings, wire figurines, vases, digital photographs and clay vessels. The artwork was by students from kindergarten to high school, representing all 16 public schools in town.

A special showing of Advanced Placement Studio Art selections will be on exhibit in the library's Perkin Gallery through June 9.
