Greenfield Hill Grange fair draws on agricultural roots

Old-fashioned fun was harvested in abundance Saturday during the annual Agricultural Fair at the Greenfield Hill Grange.

Locally grown produce, bouquets of flowers, a range of artisanal products, eggs, artwork, antiques, old farm tools and even chickens were all on display at the traditional end-of-summer event.

Music performed by the Irena Hart Band enhanced the rural atmosphere.

"This is our 117th annual agricultural fair, and this year our aim is to raise money to renovate our building, starting with painting," Beth Bradley, the grange secretary, said. "We want to be sure the structure is sound and in good condition to be safe for the community to visit."

As is also traditional at grange fairs, the event featured a contest for produce and flower growers to enter blue-ribbon candidates from their harvests. "The judging really brings us back to our agrarian roots," Bradley said.
