High notes: A Cappella concert celebrates young Fairfield voices

The Voice -- rather, many voices -- soared in Fairfield on Friday night as the 10th annual A Cappella Night program at Tomlinson Middle School showcased singers from five local schools and Harvard University.

A full house in Tomlinson's auditorium turned out for one of Fairfield schools' most popular vocal performances, featuring performances that included Fairfield Ludlowe High School's Close Harmony and Vocalchords, Fairfield Warde High School's Muse and Overtones, Frawl Out Boy from Fairfield Woods Middle School, Middle Ground from Roger Ludlowe Middle School and the Rolling Strones from Tomlinson,

Joining the local students was the Harvard Opportunes from Harvard University.

Each group performed two to three songs, generally selections from top-40 pop. Several mixed dance moves and featured guest vocal percussionists.

FLHS Music Director Kevin Cotellese welcomed attendees, while also leading Close Harmony. He was joined by music directors Sara Hoefer of Fairfield Ludlowe, Lauren Harmata of Fairfield Warde, Carole J. Frawley of Fairfield Woods and Amy Lafond of Ludlowe Middle schools.

A baked goods sale and refreshments at intermission helped raise money for the Music Parents Association scholarship program, which helps high school freshmen, sophomore and junior musicians continue musical studies during the summer. The program also provides $5,000 in scholarship awards each year to graduating seniors.
