New, full-service bike shop rolls into Fairfield

A new, full-service bicycle shop featuring bicycles, accessories and apparel for cyclists of all ages has opened on Sasco Hill Road at the corner of Post Road.

Cycleology Bikes opened Aug. 1 in a 2,000-square-foot storefront at 1 Sasco Hill Road. The shop carries bicycles ranging from children's models for as little as $100 to professional-grade racing bikes that sell for up to $15,000, the business publicist said.

Owned by a Redding couple, Matt and Joyce Baldwin, the shop's opening solidifies Fairfield as a prime cycling market. Last summer, Zanes Cycles of Branford took over the former Trek bicycle store in the Brick Walk complex and expanded its product line, sales force and repair staff.

"Fairfield is a fantastic, family-oriented community with a strong active lifestyle, where you frequently can spot packs of cyclists on group rides or triathletes swimming laps down at the beaches," Noelle Tota, Cycleology's spokeswoman, said in an email.

"With excellent scenic and safe riding routes, Fairfield is the perfect fit for a hands-on bike shop like Cycleology Bikes," she said.

The shop opened with two full-time and three part-time employees

Matt Baldwin managed Outdoor Sports Center, a Wilton bike shop, for eight years, according to his LinkedIn profile. He also was the retail director and a coach at Target Training in Westport, which provides training for cycling and other triathlon activities.

Baldwin has served on the dealer boards of multiple bicycle manufacturers, Tota said, and is certified in fitting riders to bicycles by a system used by professional racers.

The store's main bicycle brands are: Cervello, a Canadian manufacturer of road, track and triathlon bikes; Scott, a Swiss maker of road, mountain and recreational bicycles, and Pure City, a California maker of economy recreational bikes.

Bicycle prices range from $100 to $800 for children's bikes and from $400 to $15,000 for adult bikes, Tota said.

Cycling apparel brands include Assos, Castelli, Mavic, Zoot and Poc. Accessories range from Nantucket bike baskets to disc racing wheels.

The store's repair services range from simple fixes such as flat repair, to tuneups to complete bicycle overhaul, Tota said. The shop also has a rental program that includes bike racks, toddler bike trailers and other equipment.
