Two Connecticut award-winning pianists to perform at Pequot

Alex Beyer, of Fairfield, a graduate of Fairfield Warde High School and a student at Harvard University, will be in concert at the Pequot Library on Thursday July 10 and Thursday, Aug. 7.

An award-winning pianist, Beyer will perform on the solo piano at 7:30 p.m. in July, and on Thursday, Aug. 7, in a two-piano concert featuring pianist Alan Murchie. Both performances benefit Pequot Library.

Beyer has been a guest soloist with the Milwaukee, Charlotte, Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury and Bridgeport symphony orchestras, among others.

He was awarded first prize in the Renee Fischer Competition and Music Teachers National Association state and regional competitions. Beyer was also a finalist in the 2012 Gina Bachauer International Competition, and was named a 2012 U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts.

Murchie is a solo pianist, and an adjunct professor of music history at Fairfield University, where he also conducts the Fairfield University Orchestra.

He has performed in Europe and as an organist in many New York recital venues.

Murchie is an ordained minister, serving at St. John's Episcopal Church in Washington.
