Bathing-suit larceny scheme flopped on Greenwich Ave.: cops

GREENWICH — An ex-store employee on Greenwich Avenue is facing a larceny charge, after he allegedly faked a return on an item of clothing.

David Cousart, 27, of Roosevelt Square, Mount Vernon, N.Y., turned himself into police headquarters Sunday to face an arrest warrant.

Police said Cousart was working at Vilebrequin, a beach-ware shop, in early December. A customer bought a $202 bathing suit on Dec 8. After the sale, police said, Cousart claimed the item had been returned in the store’s sales registry, and he pocketed the money for the return. His scheme was foiled, police said, when the actual customer came back to the store a short time later and sought to return the item. Store management realized that illegal activity had taken place, and police were contacted.

Authorities said Cousart gave misleading statements when he was initially interviewed, and he was charged with larceny and giving a false statement to law enforcement. He was released on a $500 bond.
