Fairfield man charged with choking a woman over Christmas dress

FAIRFIELD — A local business owner apparently unhappy with the way a woman had dressed for Christmas was charged with choking her until she nearly became unconscious, police said.

Angelo Zimmermann, 37, the owner of a cleaning service company, was charged Wednesday with third-degree assault, second-degree strangulation and disorderly conduct.

He was held in lieu of $20,000 bond.

Police said they were called to Zimmermann’s address for a disturbance. When officers got there, police said, they were met by the victim, who appeared disheveled and had bruises on her mouth and neck.

Police said the victim told them that Zimmermann had become upset because he didn’t think she was “dressed nice” for Christmas. The two argued, police said, and Zimmermann allegedly punched the victim in the mouth and then grabbed her around the neck.

The victim told officers she managed to break free and ran into the bedroom and called 911, police said.

Police said Zimmermann admitted he grabbed the woman but claimed they were having “an adult argument.”
