Paced by senior Christian Alvarado's two victories, Fairfield Prep athletes won three individual events and placed second in another at the SCC boys indoor track championships on Jan. 30 at the Floyd Little Athletic Center at Hillhouse High School in New Haven. The Jesuits placed fifth among 16 teams.
One of Alvarado's wins set a meet record, his time of 9 minutes and 20.36 seconds in the 3,200-meter run was 1.50 seconds faster than the 2006 record set by Guilford's Jay Koloseus (9:21.86). Alvarado finished first in the 1,600 in 4:29.18. The Jesuits' other victory belonged to Adam Vare, who finished first in the 600 in 1:26.41.
James Mulliken was runner-up in the 1,000 in 2:41.6. Prep's 4-by-400-meter relay placed sixth in 3:41.29.
The Jesuits will compete in the CIAC Class LL state championships Saturday in New Haven at 10 a.m. They were eighth among 23 teams last year.
