COLLEGE ROUNDUP: Balanced attack propels Purple Knights

BRIDGEPORT — The Bridgeport men’s basketball team shot 55.2 percent from the floor in a 99-81 victory over Queens College Saturday afternoon at Hubbell Gym.

Five players reached double digits in scoring for the Purple Knights (14-4, 7-1 ECC), who converted 37 of 67 field goals in the game. Bakary Camara scored 16 points in 16 minutes, Eric Rankin added 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting in 11 minutes off the bench, Hashem Abbas and Sharif Cobb each scored 11 points and Vakas Iqbal chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.

Tyrese Crosdale led five players in double-figure scoring with 16 points for the Knights (5-8, 3-3).


BRIDGEPORT — Beth Bonin hit a three-pointer with one second left on the clock to give the Knights a win over the Purple Knights.

Bridgeport trailed by six at 59-53 with 22 seconds remaining the game, but tied the game on a three-pointer by Sierra Gerard with 19 seconds left, a layup by Kadijah Dickson five seconds later and a free throw by Gerard with six seconds left.

Gerard missed her second free throw attempt to set up Bonin’s game-winner for Queens (7-7, 3-3 ECC).

Dickson finished with a game-high 24 points and Sarah Middleton scored 12 points to lead the Purple Knights (5-13, 2-6). Bridgeport outrebounded the Knights, 45-42, led by 12 boards from Morgen Caution and 10 by Dickson to give her a double-double.


NEW BRITAIN — Kiana Patterso n scored 23 points, including goi ng 7-for-8 from the free-throw line in the game’s final minute, to lead the Blue Devils over the Pioneers.

Sacred Heart (6-10, 2-3 NEC) cut Central Connecticut’s lead to single digits at 62-54 with 43 seconds remaining in the game, but the Blue Devils sealed the game by going 7-for-8 from the free- throw line until the final buzzer.

Katherine Haines led three players in double-figure scoring for the Pioneers with 19 points. Tykera Carter added 16 points and Adrianne Hagood scored 12 in the loss.

Central Connecticut (2-13, 2-2) went 9-for-19 from behind the arc, led by four three-pointers by P atterson and two by Emma McCamus (10 points).


POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The Red Foxes used a 19-0 run in the first half to power a MAAC win over the Stags.

Marist (8-9, 4-1 MAAC) never trailed in the game and held a 44-19 lead at halftime. Fairfield (6-10, 3-2) would close within seven points in the second half at the 5:05 mark of the fourth quarter, but could get no closer down the stretch.

Four players reached double figures in scoring for the Stags, led by Sam Kramer’s 14 points. Samantha Cooper had a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds and Casey Foley and Kendra Landy scored 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Alana Gilmer scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Red Foxes.
