FAIRFIELD FIELD HOCKEY DEFEATS VILLANOVA
FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield University field hockey team opened its home schedule with a 3-1 win over Villanova Sunday, improving the Stags’ record to 2-0.
Danielle Profita opened the scoring when she converted a pass from Emma Matlach at the 8:11 mark for her second goal of the season. Sam Giordano made it 2-0 t three minutes later when she scored an unassisted goal.
Villanova (0-1) cut the lead to 2-1 by halftime, but the Stags scored the only goal in the second half as Meghan Maguire scored off a pass from Kaley McMullen.
Fairfield goalkeeper Zoe Rosen made one save on the five shots taken to earn her second win of the season. The Stags had 12 shots.
FAIRFIELD FALLS TO NJIT
HILLSIDE, N.J. — The Fairfield University women’s soccer lost their first game of the season as they fell to the New Jersey Institute of Technology 4-1.
Melanie Hingher scored the only goal for the Stags (3-0-1) as she headed in a corner kick from Gabby Diodati in the 54th minute.
The Highlanders held a 15-14 advantage in shots for the match. Goalkeeper Aytana Muschajew allowed four goals and made four saves, and Megan DeFeo made one save in a scoreless relief stint.
