Two premier FCIAC volleyball teams faced each other in an early-season matchup Tuesday, as Ridgefield hosted Greenwich in a rematch of last season’s Class LL Tournament quarterfinals.
The Tigers, who lost to the Cardinals in the state quarterfinal-round last fall, had the final say Tuesday, edging Greenwich 3-2.
Mackenzie Wanicka had 22 assists and eight digs, while Nora McNeese added six kills for Ridgefield, which won the match by game scores of 20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 14-25, 16-14. Ellie Brady notched 12 digs in the win.
Lily Saleeby registered 18 kills to pace Greenwich (1-1).
“It was a good learning tool for us,” GHS coach Steve Lapham said. “It was a tight match, the pressure was there. This match showed us what we have to work on — executing our serve and passing.”
Adele Sotgiu recorded six kills and Caroline Mrdelja had four blocks for the Cardinals.
