The 75th annual Fairfield Tennis Tournament will start with singles competition on July 26, at 7:30 a.m., and will finish up on July 27. The doubles tournament is scheduled for Aug. 9-10, starting at 7:30 a.m. All matches will be at the Fairfield Tennis Center on Old Dam Road. Rain location will be at Milford Indoor Tennis, at 580 Bridgeport Ave. in Milford.

Tourney rules and entry forms are available online at www.fairfieldrecreation.com or at the Fairfield Tennis Center. Completed forms along with the entry fee -- $17 for singles, $25 per doubles team -- can be turned in at the tennis center or the town's Parks and Recreation office at 75 Mill Plain Road.

Registration deadline is July 10 at 6 p.m.

Fairfield softball

in district final

On Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Trumbull's Unity Park, the Fairfield 12-and-younger girls softball all-star team will try to force a final game in the District 2 tournament to advance to the next round. Fairfield (2-1) must defeat Westport, which beat Fairfield 8-6 on Tuesday, to set up a winner-take-all game against Wesport on Saturday at 1 p.m. A win by Westport on Friday will eliminate the Fairfielders.

Fairfield defeated Trumbull 11-1 on June 22, before falling to Westport. On Wednesday afternoon, Fairfield got past Trumbull 10-0.

Sticks for Soldiers

gives out gifts

The Fairfield Ludlowe boys lacrosse team and representatives of Sticks For Soldiers, Inc. recently presented $100,000 in proceeds from the annual fall lacrosse tournament to honorees U.S. Army Captain Ben Harrow and U.S. Army Specialist Sean Pesce. The proceeds were raised from the November 2013 tournament fees and activities, held on Thanksgiving weekend and hosted by Fairfield Ludlowe Lacrosse, with additional donations accepted through the winter.

The soldiers shared the proceeds, with each receiving $50,000 toward their various future life needs such as housing, education, well-being, family expenses, or living modifications.

The 2014 Sticks For Soldiers Tournament, the ninth edition, is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 29 at Fairfield Ludlowe High School.

Flag football camps

set for August

I.S.T. Sports Headquarters and the Fairfield recreation department are sponsoring Pro Flag Football Camps in August. Former NFL players Chad Upshaw and Idris Price will lead the staff in this non-contact activity.

The first session is Aug. 4-8 at Tomlinson Field, the second is Aug. 11-15 at the South Pine Creek soccer field as is the last session on Aug. 18-22. Each is open to kindergarteners through seventh graders, all from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $225. Registration ends when the sessions are full.

Campers will learn football skills and play flag football games.

Charity golf

The 20th annual Wish Inivitational Charity Golf Tournament to benefit Make-A-Wish is set for July 14 at the H. Smith Richardson Golf Course on Morehouse Highway.

Registration will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a shotgun tee-off at 12:30 p.m. All proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish Connecticut.

`Show Me' co-ed

basketball camp

Boys and girls who will be in grades four through nine for the 2014-15 school year are eligible to enroll in a basketball skills clinic on July 7-11, from 9 a.m. to noon, in Fairfield Ludlowe.

It will be conducted by Ludlowe boys basketball coach John Dailey, with help from high school players.

Cost is $175 per camper.

Those interested in participating must send to coach Dailey a form with name, address, email address, phone number, age and grade of student-camper in 2014-15. Checks must be made payable to coach Dailey and sent by USPS to him at 248 Old Post Road, Fairfield 06824.

Basketball Academy

The Ryan Swaller Basketball Academy will run July 7-11 from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost of the camp is $160. The camp will be at Fairfield Warde High School. The camp will focus on individual skills along with team concepts. The camp is open to grades 4-9.
