Fairfield National 10s

win Section 1 title

The Fairfield National Litlle League all-star baseball team of 9- and 10 year olds won the state Section 1 championship Wednesday night at Memorial Park in Simsbury by defeating Division 2 champion Farmington 11-0. The victory sends Fairfield into the State Championship series this weekend against Section 2 champion Mystic at Brookside Park in Ellington.

The Nationals won Section 1's Division 1 title last week.

Flag football camps

set for August

I.S.T. Sports Headquarters and the Fairfield recreation department are sponsoring Pro Flag Football Camps in August. Former NFL players Chad Upshaw and Idris Price will lead the staff in this non-contact activity.

The first session is Aug. 4-8 at Tomlinson Field, the second is Aug. 11-15 at the South Pine Creek soccer field as is the last session on Aug. 18-22. Each is open to kindergarteners through seventh graders, all from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $225.

Campers will learn football skills and play flag football games.

PAL field hockey

registration open

Registration for the fall season begin on July 12 for the Fairfield Police Athletic League's two travel field hockey teams, playing in the Fairfield County Field Hockey League.

The season starts in late August and ends in the second week of November. Players from Fairfield entering sixth, seventh or eighth grade for the 2014-15 school year are eligible to sign up. Online-only registrations will be accepted until the rosters are full.

Registration is available at www.fpdct.com/pal.htm and the PAL website, www.fairfieldpal.org. Completed registrations, along with a check for the entry fee of $80, can be sent to PAL Field Hockey, c/o Priscilla Schulz, 108 Flax Road, Fairfield CT 06824. An email address should be included with registration.

Fairfield Fury

tryouts in August

The Fairfield Fury travel softball teams will conduct tryouts in Auust for the 2014-15 season at Dougiello Park, 520 Hoydens Lane. There will be tryouts for the 10-and-younger, U12, U14 and U16 teams.

Fury teams play in the Fairfield County Fastpitch Softball League for the regular season and championship tournaments. The Fury offers off-season hitting and fielding instruction, clinics and tournaments.

Tryouts for the U10 team will be Aug. 5 at 6 p.m.; U12, for 11- and 12 year olds, will be Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. The U14 and U16 teams will have a combined tryout on Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. A make-up date has been scheduled for Aug. 10 at noon, also at Dougiello Park.
