The Fairfield men’s basketball team will open the 2018-19 season at Purdue, the first of 12 non-conference opponents announced Monday.
The Stags, coming off a 17-16 season that ended in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament championship game, will face teams from 10 conferences, including the Big Ten and ACC. The 12 opponents combined for a .602 winning percentage last season and five of the teams won 20 or more games.
The schedule opens Nov. 6 at Purdue (30-7 last season). The Boilermakers were the Big Ten runner-up and lost to Texas Tech in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.
The Stags play at Bucknell (25-10) Nov. 10, facing the Patriot League regular-season and tournament champion. The first home game is Nov. 13 against LIU-Brooklyn (18-17) before hosting Wagner (23-10) Nov. 17.
Fairfield travels to the Seattle University Tournament Nov. 23-25. Longwood (7-26), Denver (15-15) and Seattle (20-14) are participating in the event.
On Dec. 1, the Stags return to the East Coast with a visit to Army (13-17), followed on Dec. 6 when Oakland University (19-14) visits.
The final three non-conference games are Dec. 9 at Old Dominion (25-7), Dec. 16 at Boston College (19-16) and Dec. 22 at New Hampshire (10-21). The meeting with BC is part of a series that brings the Eagles to Bridgeport during the 2019-20 season and returns the Stags to Chestnut Hill, Mass., in 2020-21.
