The first meeting between Fairfield Ludlowe and Fairfield Warde high school varsity sports teams during the 2014-15 school year is still more than a month away. Most of the Warde-Ludlowe games are scheduled for October.
Their first contest is set for Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Taft Field when the Mustangs visit the Falcons in a boys soccer match under the lights at 7 p.m.
The next scheduled event in the competitive but friendly and respectful rivalry is a 2-fer. The Warde boys and girls cross country teams travel cross-town on Tuesday, Oct. 7 for meets with the Falcons, New Canaan, Bassick and Harding of Bridgeport and Trinity Catholic of Stamford at 4 p.m. at Ludlowe. Last year, the Falcons ran against the Mustangs in a season-opening meet in Wilton, along with St. Joseph.
The following day (Oct. 8) Warde will be the host team at Fairfield University's Rec Plex Pool in a girls swimming meet at 3:30 p.m. against Ludlowe.
On Thursday, Oct. 9, the Falcons and Mustangs meet in two sports, both at Tetreau/Davis Field at Warde. At 5 p.m., the Fairfield high schools will play in field hockey, followed by a 7 p.m. kickoff in girls soccer. There's a break in Warde-Ludlowe competition after that.
The final October contest will be in volleyball on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at Ludlowe.
The fall series wraps up, as it does each year, with the Thanksgiving Day football game. It will be played at Tetreau/Davis Field at 10 a.m. on Nov. 27.
The high school season begins for Warde and Ludlowe on Tuesday, Sept. 9 in several sports. That's the season-opening date for Fairfield Prep and Notre Dame-Fairfield teams as well.
The Ludlowe football team, 6-5 last year, will scrimmage at Jonathan Law in Milford on Saturday at 11 a.m. Warde's football team, 4-7 in 2013, will scrimmage Fairfield Prep, Derby and Norwalk at Norwalk on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Norwalk. On Saturday, the Lancers football team, 1-10 last fall, has a scrimmage at Bullard-Havens in Bridgeport at noontime.
