Hot temperatures set new records in Conn.

More high temperature records are expected to be set Tuesday with the heat index between 95 and 99 degrees.

On Monday, a new high temperature record was set across Connecticut. Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks and Brainard Airport in Hartford had a high of 94 degrees - 14.1 degrees above average for this time of year.

Sikorsky Memorial Airport in Stratford, Danbury and White Plains, N.Y. airports had a peak temperature of 89 degrees, another new record. That temperature is nearly 12 degrees above average.

There was also a new record set at Tweed-New Haven Airport Monday with a high of 88 degrees.

Tuesday’s high is expected to be 91 degrees in southwest Connecticut and in the upper 80s in the Northwest Hills.

The National Weather Service has a heat advisory in effect until 9 p.m.

“Extreme heat can cause illness and death among at- risk population who cannot stay cool. The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure,” the NWS says. “Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental healthconditions are at an increased risk. Homes without airconditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures.”

Last month, the temperature was around 4 degrees above the average temperature of 80.9 degrees.

July’s average temperature in Connecticut was 74.1 degrees; 2.6 degrees warmer, according to the Northeast Regional Climate Center.

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 90. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph.

Thursday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70.

Friday: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79.
